Newspapers Admission of Anti-British National Party Bias Confirms Us as the Only Real Opposition

Media's Admission of Anti-British National Party Bias Confirms Us as the Only Real Opposition

By Stephen Palmer –
A newspaper’s admission that it would carry advertising from any party except the British National Party confirms our position as the only true opposition group in the country.

The admission came in a letter written by Alastair Machray, the editor of the Liverpool Echo and editor in chief of Trinity Mirror Merseyside, in response to an inquiry by Nick Griffin MEP as to whether the Echo would carry an advertisement by the British National Party.

Alastair Machray wrote that it is the Liverpool Echo’s policy to “discourage the activities of the BNP” and that it would therefore be “hypocritical” to print advertising by the Party.

Mr Machray went on to state, “I would confirm that the decision does not apply to all members or indeed parties, within the European Parliament.”

Trinity Mirror plc owns five national newspapers – the Daily Mirror, the Sunday Mirror, The People, the Daily Record and the Sunday Mail – and over 160 regional newspapers.

But this bias is not just restricted to one media group, of course. The National Union of Journalists has dedicated two websites and numerous conferences and guides designed to instruct its members on how to negatively report on the British National Party, ensuring that the public's perception of us is always cast in a purposefully detrimental light. (Ironically, however, it has no problem with having a "Black Members' Council" despite criticising the British National Party for "racial discrimination".)

This gives an indication of the amount of biased coverage and media blackouts the British National Party has to fight against in order to get its voice heard by the people of Britain. However, it also confirms, as if more proof were needed, that we are the only party that stands apart from the rest. It also shows that we are a threat.

If people really do want a change for the better in this country, it is clear for whom they have to vote: the only party that is actually any different from the rest, the British National Party.

Dear Mr Griffin

Thank you for your letter. It is this paper’s policy to discourage the activities of the BNP.

Therefore to accept your advertising would be hypocritical.

I would confirm that the decision does not apply to all members or indeed parties, within the European Parliament.

Yours sincerely,

Alastair Machray

Editor, Liverpool Echo.
